Artist's Comments

This has to be the most tedious and difficult piece I've ever made. Not by much, though.
This is my first work of leisure art in 4 months!

Now back to commissions and birthday presents...
x_x

I am so sick of drawing leaves, lol.

A BIG thanks to :iconthe-avel-fairy: for helping me out along the way with the proportions and hair and giving me suggestions.
It wouldn't have came out so nice without her.

Simone Simons of Epica
Image and background inspired from the cover of their "The Divine Conspiracy" album

Pastels and colored pencils

6 hours to finish Simone
4 for the background.

Edit: OKAY
Enough critiques, thank you everyone.
I appreciate it greatly, but I'm hearing a lot of the same thing and I think I get the idea by now. :D
hahaha

That is, unless you find something NOT mentioned by a commenter that you feel needs to be brought to my attention,
then by all means, PLEASE critique.

When I find the time,
I'll remake this and I'll fix all of the obvious mistakes.
Remember, I'm only a 15 year old amateur, not a professional on anatomy.

Critiques

:iconpurplecupcakes:
The first person to comment as already pointed out a good lot of the proportional/anatomical problems, so I won’t comment on those. But what I will comment on is her feet, eyes and skin.

The feet are undersized and the heel of the foot looks to be broken. They should be roughly as long as the face is from hairline to the bottom of the chin, even longer if the woman is taller then normal height or if it’s a man. The heel of the foot has bone in it and the woman’s butt is mostly fat, so the heel of the foot will always retain its shape and the fat will always “mold” around the foot. We should be able to see the ball of the heel clearly at all times.

There is no light reflecting in her eyes. There is lots of light on her body, the apple and her hair but none in her eyes and it makes the image look very flat. A little off-white placed just under the upper lid would fix this.

The skin is a little to on the pale side, even for someone with pale skin. There is no pink/light red in there that I can see. There should be some pink running across her cheeks and nose area, some in her fingers (Mostly the tips.) and in her toes, and then you should have a lighter pink (Lighter then what you would use for the face, fingers and toes.) running in-between the shadows and the light of the skin. A little pink in the right places brings the skin to life and makes the body look warm instead of dead cold.

I can't believe you have no comments for this deserves quite a lot if you ask me. The shading and coloring is done very nicely, including the background. I agree with you on the face and hair, so beautiful and natural, I love how you did the hair.
However I have a few things to point out.
Her hands don't match the face and rest of the body, too small and stubby. If you notice, there is a slight similarity between faces and hands. Of course the sizes of fingers and palms differ but the hand all together shouldn't be THAT much smaller than the face. Also, the fingers look unnatural.
One more thing is the arm. The upper arm should probably be slightly thinner to match the rest of her body.
Great job

Don't think, thinking's bad for you.

Super Awesome Contest!

Well done Troy! I saw the reference and you got it bang on with a slightly softer look!
:icongoodbye-to-you:
yeah, I don't have a scanner and my camera isn't that great.

I'll try for a clearer shot today.
Last night when I took it, it was like 2 or 3 in the morning, haha.

thank you!
:icongoodbye-to-you:
THANKS, BEBE. :blowkiss:

I hadn't noticed it looked softer, but now that you mention it, I have to agree.
:icongoodbye-to-you:
haha. I really hope it looks that good!
that was quite a difficult background.
:icongoodbye-to-you:
Okay, about the hands....
I totally agree with you.

I would love to fix them, but the tooth of the paper is more than just ruined where they are.

It was hard enough to draw them in the first place with the paper's quality.

It's almost impossible to fix it as the pastel merely scratches across the paper.
But I definitely see where you're coming from.

I'll try my best and see what I can do.

awww.
I really like how the left, her left, hand came out.
is that the one that's too small?

but thank you,
I appreciate the honest critique!
:iconmomotte2:
